Prevent Cargo Theft with the Thunderbolt LCRs
Many van locking systems are vulnerable to theft — a thief can simply break a front window, open the door, and press the interior unlock button to gain access to the cargo area. Installing the LCR (Lock Control Relay) from Thunderbolt Locks eliminates this security flaw.
🧰 Installation Options
- Single LCR: Install at the Body Control Module (BCM).
- Dual LCRs: Install one at each door switch for enhanced protection.
🚐 Vans Commonly Affected
This vulnerability has been observed in several models, including:
- Ford Transit
- Ford Transit Connect
- Ford E-Series
- Chevrolet Express
- GMC Savana
- Some Nissan NV models
- Older Ram ProMaster vans (without push-button start)
🔍 How to Test Your Locks
- Roll down the front window and close all doors.
- Lock the van using your key fob.
- Wait a minute for the system to enter sleep mode.
- Reach through the window, open the door using the interior handle, and press the unlock button.
- Check whether the rear cargo doors have unlocked.
If the cargo doors do unlock, your van is at risk. Installing the Thunderbolt Locks LCR will prevent this — even if someone breaks the window and opens the door, the unlock function will not operate.
⚙️ System Behavior After Installation
- The unlock button will not function until a key is inserted into the ignition.
- The key fob will continue to lock and unlock all doors normally.
How many LCRs are needed for your van?
Ford Transit: (2) if installing at the Door Handle (highly recommended to save time taking the dash apart)
Ford Transit Connect: (1) install at the BCM (under glove compartment)
Chevy Express: (2) install at the Doors
Ford E-Series: (2) install at the Doors
ProMaster City: (1) install in the front Driver’s Door.
